Auckland Sunday Best Ride - Bike ride with style
Ditch the lycra and dust off your Sunday Best for a cycle around the city.
The Sunday Best Ride is a bike tour around the fringe of Auckland's CBD celebrating the revival of "the golden years of cycling", on October 4.
Nicola Williams from Frocks on Bikes says a collection of cycling groups got together and wanted to do something similar to the Tweed Run in London.
"It's a celebration of the golden years of cycling and dressing up in general," she says.
"Cycling in Auckland is a cultural revolution and we want to reinforce the bringing of civilisation back to cycling."
The 15km loop will start at the Auckland Domain and participants will cycle through Grafton, Ponsonby and along the waterfront before finishing up at the Parnell Rose Gardens for a picnic.
Williams encourages riders to come dressed up in costume.
"If you want to come in 50s dresses or even 80s fluro and 90s pop that's fine," she says.
Williams will be riding her vintage bike and dressing up in 1940s fashion with a helmet to complete the look.
The ride is suitable for all ages and there will be safety marshals and refreshment stops along the way.
